So, I've been a long time away from journaling. Last night, though, I read through my travel journal from the Europe trip, which made me realize that I should do better about it. It was shocking to read how much I knew without realizing it at the time- things about my relationship with Matt, about dance, and about myself. Also, I realized that since this is also a tool for communication, I should definitely update more. So, here's my life over the last... long amount of time. Dance: For New Year's Eve, I worked at an event in Asheville, NC- workshops and social dances. While I was there, I won the Pro-Am Jack-and-Jill Competition (1st place) [pro-am means that amateurs (that's me) dance with professionals; jack-and-jill means it's random pairings]. The prize was a little bit of cash (enough to cover food for the weekend), and a pass to a workshop weekend in Atlanta February 17-18. The next weekend, I worked at a workshop/dance weekend in Washington, DC. While there, several of the Knoxville girls (myself included) performed a piece choreographed by my friend Heather. As a result, we've been invited to attend a workshop weekend in St. Louis, where they want us to perform again. Grad School: I've heard from two of my grad schools: Emory and Austin. Both want me to come for interviews. Austin is flying me in next weekend, and Emory will pay for my gas (it's too close for the hassle of flying) March 9-11. Yay for free travel! Still no word from San Fran. FamilY: Well, I don't remember if I posted that my house Memphis got broken into. [It did]. So all my real jewelry that I left home (thinking that was safer than my on-campus apartment) is gone. Worse, though, is that almost all of Mom's jewelry got taken. Most of mine is upsetting because they were gifts, but Mom really enjoyed wearing hers, in addition to sentimental value (I dont' trust myself enough to wear real gold very often). Plus, they got Dad's laptop. Grrr. But, Dad has a new laptop, and has finally gotten high-speed internet at home (no messages by pigeon!). Mom's sick with a sinus infection. Actually, so am I, but I'm not in the feel-like-I've-been-hit-by-a-bus phase anymore, just the gross-and-annoying phase. Sadly, Christmas involved none of the Legett side of the family. And unfortunately, I won't be able to go down in January as I'd hoped (the trade-off, though, is going to Austin for interviews). I'm hoping to have enough money to fly down for Mardi Gras... cross your fingers for cheap tickets!! So that was long, and impersonal, but more will come later. For now, I have to get back to tutoring. Oh- one last thing. It looks like I'll be a teacing fiend (dance) in Knoxville this semester. And, the #1 dancer on I-40 has asked me to train with him occassionally. This is a big deal. Very yay! Cookies, sunshine, and the lighbulb look from students. -m.
